1. Who it is for
Car Share commute programmes are for employers and campuses that want fuller cars, emptier car parks and a clear picture of how their people travel. Staff and students get a trusted way to share the trip in, with nothing for you to install and no invite codes to hand out.
2. Set up in four steps
- Talk to us. Tell us about your organisation, your sites and how people commute today.
- Verify your domain. We register your organisation’s email domain for the programme.
- People join by email. Staff sign up with their verified work email and join automatically. Students can join with their student email.
- Get monthly reports. Rides shared, seats filled, estimated CO₂ saved and your top corridors.
3. What your people get
Members use the same Car Share app as everyone else, with all its protections: verified drivers, a start code on every booking, live trip tracking, Be Safe, SOS, and masked calls and chat. Women can choose women-only rides. Passengers pay their driver in cash at pickup, within the legal cap, and Car Share takes no commission.
4. What you see each month
- Rides shared and seats filled, so you can watch the programme grow.
- Estimated CO₂ saved, in one simple monthly report.
- Commute corridors: the routes your people share most, and where seats go unfilled.
5. Why fuller cars matter
Commuting is when cars are emptiest. In England, cars on commuting trips carried an average of just 1.1 people in 2025. A 24 km return commute in an average new car burns about 1.7 litres of petrol, roughly 4 kg of CO₂ a day. When a colleague rides along instead of driving the same route alone, that second trip is never made. The figures and their sources are in our article on commute costs in Lilongwe.
